KlangBasel 2016 | September 2016
As part of the music festival KlangBasel the Austrian composer Georg Nussbaumer, known in particular for his surprising works in public space, developed a composition for amateur choirs centred around the fountains of Basel.
"The Basel funnel" follows the trail of water as a kind of musical stream. "The choirs let a sound flow through Basel. Like the water, the clay branches, sinks, rises, unites. When a choir comes to a fountain, it lets a piece from its repertoire emerge from this sound. When the choir starts moving again, these quotes sink back into the sound stream." (Georg Nussbaumer)
